I’m Sydney Ember, designer stylist and proud owner of Ember Salon.

Originally from Burney and then Chico, California, I spent my childhood in the woods & rivers and my early adult years being educated and trained in the Bay Area. I am excited to be back in the northern California pines, serving the Nevada County community.

Having grown up in a small mountain town, I value eye contact and connection with real people. Because I also experienced years in varying cities on both coasts and in Europe, I understand the allure of luxury, quality, art & excellent service. Like so many others, I left the city to slow down, make time for family & connection with my community and refresh my soul.

I’ve spent over a decade acquiring the skills to execute magazine-worthy hair.

I am passionate about keeping blondes bright & healthy, keeping brunettes from going brassy, and keeping redheads from becoming dull.

I’m having so much fun applying all my years of teaching & training to each make-over in our community. I view new guests as a blank canvas. Together we will create your new look based on your lifestyle, hair-type, desired maintenance schedule and personality. I love the journey of diving into your hair history and hair goals. Taking all this into consideration, we will create a path that will leave you looking and feeling renewed.

While most stylists cover the grey, add some dimension and trim the dry ends, I see the smaller details and the bigger picture.

It begins with formulating for each section of your hair, so the hairline is lighter where grey grows in, and the back is darker, so it doesn’t turn brassy over time. By using a gentler developer on the fragile blonde hair around the face or when painting the ends, breakage is prevented, resulting in shinier blondes. By formulating for each part of the hair instead of running your root color through the ends, I help prevent muddy, frazzled and over-processed hair. The result is reflective, natural color and over-all healthier hair. Because I understand how porosity affects tone and durability of color, I offer multiple in-salon deep treatment options.

I am a life-long learner and love sharing what I’ve learned with others. During your visit, I will include you in the process by telling you what I am doing and why. I will teach you how to achieve better results at home with your products and hair-care routine.

Currently, I enjoy spending time outdoors with my two young sons or going to concerts with my husband.

I am passionate about whole health and love new recipes made with real food.

On the weekend, you can find me gardening at home, mountain unicycling with my friends, drinking a clean IPA in front of the record-player or listening to an audio-book while on the road.

I love to swap self-improvement or business audio-book titles and am always looking for leads on good mountain bike or hiking trails.
